Ragi Shavige Uppittu (ರಾಗಿ ಶಾವಿಗೆ ಉಪ್ಪಿಟ್ಟು)

 “Ragi Shavige Uppittu” could be served as a perfect breakfast or as a light dinner. This has to go down as the easiest thing to cook.  

        Ingredients:

1) Ragi Vermicelli  - 1 Packet (200 Gms)
         2) Carrot  - 1 ( Cut into small cubes)
         3) Beans  - About 5 or 6 ( Cut into fine pieces)
         4) Green Chillies - 5 (Slit Length Wise)
         5) Red Onion - 1 Large
         6) Sweet Peas - ¼ Cup
         7) Salt - To Taste
         8) Turmeric - Pinch
         9) Mustard - ½ Tsp
        10) Urad Dal  - 1 Tsp
        11) Channa Dal - 1 Tsp
        12) Curry Leaves - Few
        13) Coconut  - For Garnishing
        14) Coriander - For Garnishing
        15) Lemon Juice - 1 Tbsp
        16) Oil

 

Method:

 
1)    Cook the Vermicelli as per the instructions on the packet. i.e. Soak the Vermicelli in cold water for less than a minute, now drain the water and cook it with some salt in a pressure cooker for around 4 minutes.
2)     Heat Oil in a wok, add Mustard seeds and allow it to splutter, and then add Channa dal, Urad dal, Green Chillies, Curry Leaves and Onions.
3)    Fry the onions until it starts to get golden brown, then add cooked Carrots, Beans, Peas, some salt, Turmeric and give it a good stir.
4)     Now turn the heat to low, add the cooked Ragi Vermicelli, coconut, some finely chopped coriander and mix it well.
5) Turn off the heat and add lemon Juice.
6) You could serve it with Ketchup or Coconut Chutney.
 

Tip: Make sure you add a little Oil/Ghee while cooking the Vermicelli so that they don’t get sticky.
